5 Questions for Ditte Sommer
Who are you, and what do you do?
My name is Ditte Sommer, and I work with horse training with a focus on groundwork, communication, and understanding between horse and rider. For me, it’s about creating a strong relationship where the horse feels safe, motivated, and involved throughout the process.
What makes your approach to horse training different?
I place great importance on meeting the horse where it is – both mentally and physically. My focus is not only on the result, but on the journey getting there. I work with small details, body language, and timing, so both horse and human have a better experience together.
What do you specifically work with?
I primarily work with groundwork, lunging, and basic communication. This is where the foundation is built – and where you can truly make a difference in the horse’s understanding, balance, and sense of security.
What is important to you when working with horses?
For me, the most important thing is that the horse is mentally engaged. I don’t aim for quick fixes – I want the horse to understand what we are doing. When it does, calmness, cooperation, and results follow naturally.
What do you want people to take away from your teaching?
That they leave with a better feeling and a clearer understanding. Not just of the exercises – but of their horse. When you start to notice the small things and feel the difference, it truly makes an impact.
